Dēmoskratos empowers black communities through interactive civic education, fostering informed citizens who actively participate in creating a more equitable society.

ABOUT.

At Dēmoskratos, our mission is to empower Black Communities by fostering civic literacy and engagement. We believe that knowledge is power, and by equipping individuals with the tools to understand and navigate the civic institutions that shape their lives, we can create positive change and build a more inclusive society.

Through our free workshops in community organizations, we provide fun and interactive learning experiences that go beyond traditional education. By using innovative approaches, we engage youth in meaningful conversations about their rights, responsibilities, and the democratic processes that affect their everyday lives.

Our impact extends far beyond the workshop setting. We have witnessed firsthand how increased civic literacy among marginalized communities empowers individuals to advocate for themselves, make informed decisions, and actively participate in their communities. By equipping at-risk youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate complex civic systems, we are helping to break the cycle of marginalization and inequality.

Through collaboration with community partners and dedicated volunteers, we strive to create a ripple effect of positive change that extends to families, neighborhoods, and society at large. By empowering individuals to become active, informed citizens, we are fostering a stronger democracy built on equality, inclusivity, and social justice.

Together, we can create a future where every individual, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the knowledge and confidence to actively participate in shaping their own destinies. Join us in our mission to increase civic literacy, amplify marginalized voices, and build a more equitable society for all.

Free Community Workshops

We have had the privilege of leading workshops in various organizations, including:

  • Black Community Resource Center: In collaboration with the Black Community Resource Center, we conducted educational workshops on the basics of Canadian Government, empowering participants with knowledge about civic institutions.
  • Tyndale Employment Centre: At the Tyndale Employment Centre, we facilitated workshops that focused on civic engagement and provided participants with valuable insights into the democratic processes that shape our society.
  • Youth In Motion: Through our partnership with Youth In Motion, we delivered engaging workshops that aimed to increase civic literacy and empower young individuals to actively participate in their communities.
  • Coalition de la Petite Bourgogne: Working with the Coalition de la Petite Bourgogne, we organized workshops to educate participants about the Canadian Government and fostered discussions on civic responsibilities.

These workshops served as platforms for participants to gain a deeper understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and the democratic systems that impact their lives.

Speak Politics

Demoskratos presents "Speak Politics," a social media campaign that educates and empowers youth with civic definitions. Through engaging videos, infographics, and quizzes, the campaign breaks down complex concepts into understandable explanations. Experts collaborate to ensure accuracy, and interactive discussions foster peer learning. Partnering with influencers and organizations, we aim to reach a wide audience and inspire informed and active citizenship.

Advocacy Internship 2023

The Demoskratos Advocacy Internship 2023 was a summer program designed to provide three students with the opportunity to work collaboratively on a national advocacy strategy. The interns developed a comprehensive two-year advocacy plan aimed at creating meaningful change in society. They received support from experts in advocacy and policy through expert workshops, where they gained knowledge and skills necessary for their project. The interns had access to valuable resources and engaged in regular collaborative sessions to foster idea sharing and problem-solving. By the end of the program, the interns produced a strategic roadmap for Demoskratos' future advocacy initiatives. This internship offered a unique opportunity for aspiring advocates to gain hands-on experience and make a lasting impact on critical issues.

collaborations WE ARE PROUD OF

Project Woke

In 2019, we had the honor of leading a civic leadership workshop series called "Project Woke." This project focused on empowering 15 young Black youth with the knowledge and tools to address systemic racism and injustice within their communities. Through interactive sessions, we explored the principles of democracy and strategies for effecting positive change.

The workshop series encouraged participants to reflect on their roles as active citizens and to develop their civic leadership skills. By equipping young individuals with the necessary tools and fostering discussions around systemic challenges, we aimed to inspire them to become catalysts for social transformation.

These past projects exemplify our commitment to promoting civic literacy, engaging marginalized communities, and empowering individuals to drive positive change. We continue to build upon these experiences as we work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
